Stylish Victorian Archaeological Revival locket
Modelled in high carat gold the central oval is set with a large 'essex crystal' carved and reverse painted as a seated Black and Tan or Manchester Terrier, one paw wistfully raised.
He is wearing a red ribbon with a bell and sitting on a brick red ground, the background mother of pearl.
The setting edge is decorated with a rope twist of gold and on the wide border of the locket a raised double helix style pattern is enhanced by the gold ball and wire work edging. The tapered bail bears a matching pattern.
The back of the locket has a glass locket panel that can be opened (like a paint tin lid) to add a photograph or lock of hair.
The locket measures 50 x 35mm without bail
