I just love this antique Vesta / Whistle combination.
Modelled as a spaniel perhaps, wearing a collar engraved with dots and zig- zags, fitted with a ring on the collar for a chain. 
The body of the whistle is engraved with a greek key motif  and the mouth piece is engraved with a decorative monogram 'A,M.'
The head has a hinged little lid which serves as the strike plate for the matches one would have kept within. 
Whistle makes a lovely high pitched sound.
