Highly unusual scent bottle, carved from Blue John stone, with 18 carat gold and enamel snake coiled around it’s neck, and two chains attaching it to an enamelled gold ring so it can be hung from a finger whilst holding it in one’s hand 1860-70 European
The snake is decorated with pale blue enamel, with red enamelled eyes. He coils around the bottle, just below the neck of the 18 carat gold lid, which is fashioned as a sea shell. The lid open and closes firmly so perfume can indeed still be kept within.
The bottle hangs from two 18ct gold chains that are 85mm long and fasten onto a gold enamelled ring which is 2mm wide and a size 7. I wonder if the ring was once a matching snake ring??
The blue John bottle measures 64mm x 30mm x 11mm deep and a total length of 160mm when hanging from the ring
The whole thing weighs 39.7g
