An large oval silver pocket sundial and compass.

A beautiful piece, engraved with roman numerals,  the stick which is  called a gnomon hinges up and is engraved with the initials, B.W.R

 

The centre of the sundial and the base of the compass are both engraved with a Tudor Rose

 

Sundials can symbolize the fleeting nature of life, and the importance of making the most of the moment. 

 

French, early 18th century.

 

Measures 55mm x  37mm (excluding loose bail).

 

Weight - 22.5g

 

With an old but later pendant mount, allowing it to be worn as a pendant.

 

Good antique condition, compass needle is a replacement but is working
