Gorgeous Victorian 18 Carat Gold Jarretière Bracelet
A jarretière is a strap bracelet made from flat, long links with a buckle fastener, mordant and occasionally a slide. This style of bracelet appeared around 1855.
The 'buckle slider' here is a gold panel, chased with a foliate motif, is set with an oval garnet, faceted, with a concave centre set with a diamond star.
the jarretière is made from gold rods, plaited along the outer edge, and it is so well made that even now one can put it on a wrist, to the size required, and it will slide to the perfect size, and not slip.
The strap ends with a foliate engraved mordant.
A mordant is a metal piece, sometimes jeweled, affixed to a belt or bracelet on the opposite end from the buckle. In jewelry, a mordant usually serves as a decorative way to finish the non-buckle end of a strap bracelet.
Modelled in 18 carat gold, the design a belt with sliding buckle (garter) which means it can fit any wrist.
Delicious Mercury gild finish.
